Organisations involved in Play in a Week
The Freewheelers Theatre Company
The Freewheelers moved out of Queen Elizabeth's Foundation and into the
community at the end of October last year. They now work at The Bridge off
Kingston Road in North Leatherhead on Mondays and Tuesdays between 10am and 4.30pm.
The Freewheelers work in drama, dance and film, and use any technology necessary
to enable performers to work autonomously.
Discover Drama Group
The Discover Drama Group was formed specifically for young adults ages
16 plus who experience moderate learning difficultices. Group members have
the opportunity to develop communication, co-ordination and social skills, to build
confidence levels through performing and visual arts activities, and to increase
their knowledge of theatre skills during workshops and performance. The Group,
which attracts young people from Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire, meets each fortnight
during term time for workshops in drama, dance, mime, music and mask.
Lockwood and Harbour Day Services
Lockwood and the Harbour Day Services are based in South West Surrey and
offer opportunities to adults with learning disabilities. Although the centres
are 10 miles apart they work together to offer a wide variety of life skills, community
projects and the arts. The centres have both been involved in Rhythmic Collision
dance shows and Enigma dance showcases.
The Grange Centre
The Grange Centre in Bookham is a modern, proactive, charitable organisation
which promotes independance, confidence and high self esteem, by providing work
place, daily living, and vocational training for adults with learning and physical
disabilities. Using client's abilities tutors help to bring out the best in
people so they can achieve their own ambitions and goals in life, the philosophy
being to reach forward to attain maximum independence and social awareness, whilst
having the benefit and support from qualified and dedicated Grange staff.
SeeAbility
SeeAbility is a charity for people who have visual impairment and additional
disabilities. SeeAbility's purpose is to see beyond disability and enable
blind and partially sighted people with additional disabilities to achieve their
full potential.
Link Leisure
Link Leisure is a charity for people with learning disabilities, serving
the boroughs of Woking and Surrey Heath. We aim to empower people and to improve
their quality of life through sports and social activities. Drama has been
an important part of this for some years now with our team and adult drama groups.
